Merry Christmas fools! What a privilege, to celebrate the season with Texas Select. Yeah? No? Okay.

I think if you add up the times, which I have no desire to do, this is our longest show ever. We hit on every major topic - NFL, NBA, MLB, High School football, College football, and loads upon loads of random stuff. The first two segments are all over the place, but I had to pick something to title them by.

One of our twice-yearly forays into John-less territory here in Show 19, only with a three-man booth this time. No subs.

I think there is some understated genius in this show, if you listen long enough. Plus I'd like to give props to myself and listener Miles Sellers for understanding the Romo phenomenon better than most. Even though I love Romo. It's tough love.

"Free Time Segment" is a new concept in which we will try out gimmicky segment topics that may have never actually been used for "radio" before. After listening to our first attempt, it is flat out amazing how funny we think things are, when most people would assume by listening that we must be smoking pot. Seriously.

Keep your eyes on the site, we plan to have a Texas Select Christmas Extravaganza very soon.

I forgot to record us twice on this show. I thought I was going to get gang tackled. We had a good baseball dialogue going, and it's lost. Then, I screwed up "D'ya hear about..." but we tried to recover anyway.

Show 18 is the debut of version 2.0 of the El Taco H Hotline, so listen for contributions from Mark on "Forgot to Hit Record Again," and a special segment featuring Brian's dad. El Taco H Hotline esta mucho improved.

Texas Select is one year old! Yeah, we had a little wilderness period, there, but Summer Hiatus 2 has ended, and this is what you get. Open Mic is the longest single segment in Texas Select history, and Storm's Special has pretty much degenerated into a formless BS session. Bear with us while we stretch our legs out and get back into the radio groove.

The first show since Show 3 where the audio flat-out sucks. The audio is bad, really bad, because the gain on the mics was too high. Sounded fine on the headphones... my bad.

Recorded on the day of Terrell Owens' first press conference as a Cowboy, this show has special guest Jeremy Phillips filling in for Brian. It just so happened he was in town, we needed to do a show, so we made it happen.

The second installment of Show 10. Maybe we should've just gone on to 11. Recall Show 6, where a pizza eating contest between Fundy and John knocked Fundy out for the count. This time, it was Brian and Fundy. We don't know what got into them. They managed to shatter both John's record (18) and my record (19). It totally took us by surprise. Fundy ate 20. This is the guy who starts complaining at 10.. which is a lunch serving for me. Brian ate... 28. 28 pieces of cardboard from CiCi's. This is a most amazing feat. However, we likely will never eat there again, for myriad reasons, not the least of which is both Fundy and Brian could hardly function during the show.

Regardless, we kicked off the show with a cameo from Brian's dad, and later got a contribution from PT on the El Taco H Hotline at the beginning of Open Mic. For that alone, the show is brought up a couple notches. Brian finally got to rant on the Manning family, and the broadcasters "discussion" is an interesting view into the minds of John and Brian and how they reason (or fail to reason).

The first of two Show 10's. Why two? Because we realize that makes no sense. Edwards couldn't join us this time, so we wanted him to be present for part of the landmark 10th show. Even with just three guys, we hold our own. Lots of good stuff here. For starters, Fundy was actually prepared for his Open Mic segment. We talk about Kobe, and we might surprise you. We talk NBA for the first time in a long time. Rhylan does his Chris Arnold impression. It's all over the place. John sings. Twice.

Show Nine starts off 2006 with a bang. For starters, we address John and Fundy's states of denial and suspension of reality regarding Texas Tech football. And congratulate the 'Horns. We move onto Brian calling out Mr. Randy, John living out a dream (sorta), and comeuppance for our early-season Cowboys predictions. The technological wizardry of the El Taco H Hotline gives us the privilege of contributions from our #1 listener, and Fundy extends his Open Mic blank drawing streak to at least six shows. Enjoy.

Long overdue, here's show eight. We've added "real" microphones to our setup. It looks like a real operation. Unfortunately, we still don't have any real talent on the air! This show is a milestone of sorts, not only because of the microphones, but because John had to study and we had to replace him with Mark. Mark held his own, and it gave us the opportunity to use John as our first caller into the show. Well, sorta. We called him. But it still worked! Check out "ESPN Goes Hollywood" to hear our technological wizardry and get your Medlock fix. If you can make it all the way to the end of the Open Mic segment, there's a treat for you - Brian ate a piece of string.

Show seven! We now officially have a mixer! Yes, that's real audio equipment. We still have cheapo mics, so it doesn't quite work as great as it could, but this does give us the ability to add music and sound bites. I spent all day just trying to get everything hooked up right. It took five trips to Radio Shack. As a result, I wasn't really good at running everything all at once. There aren't many fancy things going on, just intro and outro music. Talk-wise, you gotta hear Brian's story about the UNT football game. Free Rick!!

I guess that's what happens when the four of us collectively eat almost 60 pieces of pizza before the show. Sports content here is decent, but our friends will probably enjoy John's Health Report the best.

Show five of our sports-talk/random-bs'ing Internet broadcast brings an official new name to the show: Texas Select.

Yes, we believe this one will stick. You can thank Brian and Fundy for the name. It's a bit of an inside joke, but it's also indicative of the top shelf sports talk that you get on this lovely little show.

We also started a couple of new traditions.

Sponsorships. Unbeknownst to our sponsors, each show, as well as the Open Mic, Headlines, and brand new Pick of the Week segments, will be brought to you by a notable business. Unbeknownst to them.

The Storm's Special Pick of the Week. A new, short segment. We're a sports show, primarily. So, you're thinking this is our pick for hot game of the week? Or, you're thinking it's who we think will win a particular hot game of the week? Perhaps. Honestly, we don't know. The Pick of the Week is not discussed until the actual time of the segment. At the time of the segment, one of us will determine what the pick of the week is. We might be picking a team, a game, or something completely unrelated to anything. In round-table style, each one of us announces our Pick of the Week. Named for and "sponsored" by the greatest value in all of Texas fast food - the Storm's Special. A triple meat hamburger and fries. When you add a medium drink, it comes in under $5.

Show Five: October 7, 2005

I lied about no more baseball talk. The playoffs have the guys energized about baseball - myself mysteriously excluded. There's lots of yelling when it comes to the discussions of whether or not NASCAR is a sport, and the Yankees' hypocrisy. Typically incendiary topics for this crew. The conspicuous omission of Cowboys talk lets you know how we felt about the team at the time. As I publish this, the Cowboys just laid a whuppin' on the Eagles. How did this happen? I'm happy, but how?

Our radio show has a new interim name: Whistlin' Pete.

Brian and Fundy came up with it when we were being random, trying to come up with something. It's not going to stick, but it's the official interim name. It doesn't really have to do with the fact that the URL for this blog has "pete," in it, but it comes from the same people who randomly called me Pete 10 years ago, so whatever. I don't even whistle that much. And it's not just me on the show. We still have a 3-1 majority to name the show "Turducken" but John is exercising his veto power.

Show Four: October 1, 2005

This might be the only baseball talk the show will feature until April - unless something awesome happens in the playoffs. "Houston Sports Non-Allegiance" was an ad-lib and right on point. Plenty of Cowboys talk here, less college football talk than before. There's also a very meandering 18-minute Open Mic segment, if you've got the patience.

With Show Three, we finally got the audio right. I think. The first two shows, we were just learning the ropes. I hope it sounds remotely normal. The 2005 Cowboys Predictions and the Open Mic segments are probably the highlights. The "bonus cut" came from soundchecking the mics. It was so original, I had to keep it.

The audio for Show Two is much better than the first, but not quite as good as Show Three. John sounds like he's in another room for part of this show, and I alternate between being too quiet and way too loud. This was our first show with real microphones, so you can't expect much.

Some old friends of mine and I have long wanted to be on sports talk radio. For the purpose of our own entertainment (and a guaranteed audience of at least two), we've started recording our "radio" show, to be published right here on the good ol' Internet.

This show is probably 90% sports and 10% random tangents. There's also an undetermined share of inside jokes among these segments. Our hope is to have a weekly or almost-weekly show with 4 or 5 segments each time.

Show One: August 16, 2005

Disclaimer: The audio for Show One sucks. This was before we realized you needed to have real microphones and not just the cheap microphone that comes with the computer. You can hear more background noise than the real thing. Some of us sound much quieter than others. It's pretty amateur. I guess we ARE amateurs. We do get better!
